AUSTIN, Texas Texas and Colt McCoy have done all they can do. Now, all the Longhorns and their quarterback can do is wait hope and pray.

Fourth-ranked Texas emphatically snapped Texas A&Ms two-game winning streak in this rivalry, 49-9, on Thursday.

McCoy, a Heisman Trophy contender, was 23-of-28 passing for 311 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 48 yards on 11 carries with a pair of scores.

The junior quarterbacks 16-yard run in the third quarter made it 28-3 and settled the outcome for all intents and purposes.

The victory temporarily pushed the Longhorns (11-1, 7-1) to the top of the Big 12 South, pending the results of Oklahomas meeting with Oklahoma State and Texas Techs matchup with Baylor on Saturday.

If the Sooners and Red Raiders win, a three-way tie would be created in the Big 12 South. The divisions representative in the conference championship against Missouri on December 6 would come down to BCS standings. If Oklahoma loses and Texas Tech wins, the Red Raiders would represent based on their 39-33 victory over Texas on November 1.

Texas has a slender lead over Oklahoma for second place in the current BCS standings, but the Sooners figure to pick up some ground with a win over Oklahoma State. The scenarios do not favor the Longhorns despite their 45-35 victory over Oklahoma in Dallas on October 11.

The Longhorns took the opening kickoff and overcame two third-and-long situations to score a touchdown. McCoy was 3-of-3 passing for 31 yards and carried for 38 more, including the final 14 to make it 7-0.

McCoy doubled the advantage in the second quarter, hitting Brandon Collins from 20 yards to make it 14-0.

Randy Bullock kicked a 37-yard field goal for the Aggies (4-8, 2-6) to make it 14-3 with less than two minutes to go in the half.

McCoy was magnificent on the final drive of the half, leading Texas to a touchdown despite taking a shot from defensive lineman Von Miller that appeared to wind him after releasing a pass.

McCoy came back on the field after a timeout and led Texas to a score, finding Quan Cosby from 9 yards with 12 seconds left to make it 21-3.

McCoy was 18-of-21 for 178 yards passing in the first 30 minutes. He added 32 yards rushing to go with the two passing TDs and a rushing score.
